Colmar's Statue of Liberty stands at the northern entrance to the city, a 12-meter (39-foot) replica of the iconic monument in New York Harbor. It was inaugurated in 2004 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of Auguste Bartholdi, the sculptor who created the original. The statue is made of resin and faces the direction of the original. Visitors can walk around the base and read plaques explaining Bartholdi's connection to Colmar. The site includes a small park and is a popular photo stop. Though not as grand as its New York counterpart, it serves as a proud local tribute.
