The Old New Synagogue, completed around 1270, is the oldest surviving synagogue in Europe still in use. Its Gothic architecture features a striking five-ribbed vault, a central pillar, and a separate women's gallery. According to legend, the golem of Prague, a clay creature brought to life by Rabbi Judah Loew, is stored in the attic. Visitors can see the medieval interior, including the Torah ark and the reader's platform, and feel the weight of centuries of Jewish worship in this enduring spiritual center.

Don't miss

  • The medieval Torah ark with its intricate ironwork
  • The small, high-set windows that create a dim, reverent interior
  • The legend of the golem, with the attic door kept locked per tradition
