La Cabaña, officially the Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña, is a sprawling fortress built by the Spanish in the 1770s. It offers a glimpse into colonial military architecture with its thick walls, moats, and ramparts. Today, it houses museums on weaponry and history, but the main draw is the nightly cañonazo ceremony at 9 PM, where costed soldiers reenact the firing of a cannon, a tradition dating back to colonial times.
