Lokrum is a lush, car-free island just a short ferry ride from Dubrovnik's Old Town. Visitors can explore the botanical garden, which features exotic plants from around the world, and wander through the ruins of a 12th-century Benedictine monastery. The island's saltwater lake, known as the Dead Sea, is popular for swimming and cliff jumping. Lokrum also offers shaded walking trails, peacocks roaming freely, and a small museum on the island's history. It's a peaceful escape from the city crowds.
