Tianjin Water Park

Tianjin Water Park is the largest urban park and recreation area in Tianjin, China. It covers 126.71 hectares and consists of nine islands and three lakes (East Lake, West Lake, and South Lake). Pathways, pagodas, and gardens surround the waterways, blending Chinese and foreign architectural styles. It was officially rated a AAAA-level tourist attraction in 2004.

A bit of history

The park was formerly known as 'Green Dragon Pond' and its history traces back to the first century AD. The site was known for lush vegetation and natural ecosystems, especially in summer and autumn. With the establishment of Beiyang University and Nankai University around the turn of the 19th century, the waterways became popular for swimming among academic staff and students. Ground-breaking occurred on 26 August 1950, and the park officially opened on 1 July 1951. In 1986, the 15,000-square-metre 'ancient-style' garden Bibozhuang was built.
