Lu Xun Native Place

Lu Xun Native Place is the childhood home and neighborhood of Lu Xun, one of the foremost Chinese writers of the early 20th century. Located in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, it covers 500,000 square meters and includes his former residences, Baicao Garden, Sanwei Study Room, his ancestral residence, Changqing Temple, and Tugu Temple. The area retains and restores Lu Xun's original living environment.

• Since 1 June 2008, entry to Lu Xun Memorial Museum is free for everyone with a Chinese ID.
• Since 2018, the Memorial Museum and scenic area have been open to tourists at night for free.

A bit of history

Lu Xun was born on 25 September 1881 in the west building of his former residence. After the establishment of the people's regime in Shaoxing in May 1949, preparations began for a memorial hall, which opened in 1953. In 2008, after extensive restoration and reconstruction, the Native Place was opened by the Shaoxing city government. Since 2012, it has been classified as a AAAAA scenic area and receives about 2 million visitors annually. Notable visitors include Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao, and Wen Jiabao.
