Devonian Gardens

Devonian Gardens is a unique urban oasis located on the fourth floor of the CORE Shopping Centre in downtown Calgary. This 2.5-acre indoor park is a lush, climate-controlled sanctuary filled with over 500 trees, 20,000 plants, and several water features, including cascading waterfalls and koi ponds. The gardens are divided into distinct areas, such as the Tropical Rainforest, the Desert Garden, and the Formal Garden, each showcasing different plant species. Walking paths wind through the greenery, leading to seating areas and a children's play zone. The natural light streaming through the glass roof creates a serene atmosphere, making it a popular spot for office workers to escape the urban bustle. The gardens also host art installations and seasonal events. Despite being indoors, the space feels open and airy, with the sound of water masking city noise. It's a free attraction that offers a refreshing break, especially during Calgary's cold winters.

A bit of history

Devonian Gardens opened in 1977 as part of the TD Square development, funded by the Devonian Group of Charitable Foundations. It was designed by landscape architect J. Austin Floyd and underwent a major renovation in 2012–2013, adding new plantings and accessibility features.
