Recife Antigo is the historic heart of the city, a peninsula where the Capibaribe River meets the Atlantic. Once a wealthy colonial port, it fell into decline before a recent revival restored its colorful 18th- and 19th-century buildings. Today, it's a lively cultural district with museums like the Museu Cais do Sertão and the Paço do Frevo, along with art galleries, restaurants, and bars. The Rua do Bom Jesus is a pedestrian street lined with pastel houses and a popular spot for evening drinks. The neighborhood also hosts the Oficina de Cerâmica Francisco Brennand.
