Đinh Tiên Hoàng Temple

Đinh Tiên Hoàng Temple stands in Trường Yên within the ancient capital of Hoa Lư. It is the only temple in Vietnam honoring the emperor together with his parents, sons, and four key generals. Built in the 17th century on the old palace site, the east-facing complex passes a crescent lake, sun-motif screen, tiled ceremonial gate, and lim-wood inner gate. In the dragon courtyard, two carved stone platforms show dragons and clouds beside stone nghê guardians. The platforms became national treasures in 2017. A five-bay worship hall leads to the main shrine, where a bronze emperor sits on a green stone pedestal, flanked by statues of his sons and altars for the generals. Folk woodcarving appears throughout the structure.

A bit of history

Excavations uncovered inscribed bricks from the Đinh and Early Lê periods, confirming that the later sanctuary occupies the ancient palace site. The temple joined the Tràng An UNESCO World Heritage Site with the other Hoa Lư remains in 2014.
