Bái Đính Temple

Bái Đính Temple is a large Buddhist complex on Bái Đính Mountain in Ninh Bình Province, consisting of an original old temple and a newer, much larger temple. It is one of the biggest Buddhist temple complexes in Vietnam.

• The old temple is reached by ascending over 300 stone steps and passing under an ornamental gate.
• The new temple uses locally quarried stone, timber from Ninh Bình, and tiles from Bát Tràng, with traditional curved finials and corner eaves resembling a phoenix's tail.

Getting there

Know before you go

• The complex includes both an old temple in the foothills and a new temple on the Ba Rau hills.
• Artisanal works from local handicraft villages, such as bronze sculptures from Ý Yên and stone carvings from Ninh Van, are used throughout the interior.

A bit of history

The original temple is located in small caves on the mountainside, while the new complex was built in phases from 2003 to 2010 on the Ba Rau hills near the Hoàng Long River.
