Linh Phước Temple

Linh Phước Temple, also called Ve Chai Temple, is a distinctive Buddhist pagoda about 8 km from central Da Lat. It is known for its elaborate mosaic decorations made from broken porcelain and glass, covering the entire seven-level structure.

• A 49-meter-long dragon made from 12,000 beer bottles, with a 7-meter-high head that encloses a Maitreya Buddha statue.
• The main hall, 33 m long and 12 m wide, features two rows of cobblestone mosaics and bas-reliefs depicting the history of Shakyamuni and the Lotus Sutras.
• A 37-meter-high, seven-storeyed bell tower, considered the highest temple bell tower in Vietnam, housing a 4.3 m high bell weighing 8,500 kg, regarded as the heaviest bell in the country.
• A statue of Quan The Am (Guan Yin) in front of the temple.

Getting there

Know before you go

• The temple is located at No. 120 Tu Phuoc, Trai Mat District, about 8 km from Da Lat city center on Highway 20.
• The entire pagoda is covered in intricate mosaics made from broken porcelain, giving it a unique, kitschy appearance.
• The bell tower contains a massive bell cast in 1999, which is both the tallest and heaviest in Vietnam.

A bit of history

Construction began in 1949 and was completed in 1952. In 1990, Venerable Thich Tam Vi restored the temple and added new buildings. The temple has had five abbots since 1951.
