The Obelisk of Montevideo stands 40 meters tall at the intersection of 18 de Julio Avenue and Artigas Boulevard, marking the site where Uruguay's first constitution was proclaimed in 1830. Designed by sculptor José Luis Zorrilla de San Martín, the granite monument features three bronze figures representing Law, Liberty, and Strength. It's a central landmark for locals, often used as a meeting spot or backdrop for protests and celebrations. The surrounding plaza offers a good view of the avenue's bustle.
Don't miss

- Photograph the obelisk from the median of 18 de Julio Avenue for a classic Montevideo shot.
