The Ulupalakua AVA (American Viticultural Area) is a designated wine region on the slopes of Haleakalā, home to MauiWine (formerly Tedeschi Vineyards). The tasting room, set in a historic jailhouse, offers samples of pineapple wine and other varietals. Visitors can take self-guided tours of the grounds, which include old plantation buildings, a botanical garden, and scenic views of the ocean and mountains. The area's cool climate and volcanic soil create unique growing conditions, making it a distinctive stop on the upcountry loop.
