The Norwegian Lady Statues are a pair of identical bronze figures facing each other across the Atlantic, one in Virginia Beach, one in Moss, Norway. They honor the 1891 grounding of the bark Dictator and the lifesaving efforts of local surfmen. Visitors see the 14-foot statue at the oceanfront, often with wreaths or flags nearby, and can read the story on an adjacent plaque. The statue serves as a quiet, poignant landmark amid the bustling boardwalk.
Don't miss
- View the statue at 25th Street and the Boardwalk, facing east toward Norway.
- Read the interpretive plaque detailing the Dictator shipwreck and rescue.
- Find the sister statue in Moss, Norway, via a webcam or travel connection.
