Donner Creek flows from the eastern end of Donner Lake, carving a path through granite boulders and pine-studded terrain. The creek's gentle gradient makes it ideal for easy walks along its banks, where visitors can observe beavers, otters, and waterfowl. The area is steeped in history, as the creek was part of the route used by the Donner Party. Today, it offers a serene setting for photography, picnicking, and exploring the interplay of water and forest.

Don't miss

  • Walking the Donner Creek Trail from Donner Lake to the Truckee River
  • Spotting beavers and ducks in the creek's slow-moving pools
  • Viewing wild irises and columbines blooming along the banks in summer
