The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption, commonly known as St. Mary's Cathedral, is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco. Its bold modernist design, completed in 1971, features a saddle-shaped roof that rises 190 feet and is topped by a 55-foot golden cross. The interior is equally dramatic, with a vast, light-filled nave, a massive bronze crucifix, and a stunning 7,000-pipe organ. Visitors can attend Mass, explore the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, or simply admire the architecture. The cathedral's location on Cathedral Hill offers panoramic city views.
