Tribeca, short for 'Triangle Below Canal Street,' transformed from a warehouse district into one of New York's trendiest neighborhoods. Its cobblestone streets and cast-iron buildings now house upscale boutiques, celebrity-owned restaurants, and contemporary art galleries. The annual Tribeca Film Festival, founded in 2002, draws crowds for screenings and street fairs. Visitors can stroll along Franklin Street, pop into galleries like the Drawing Center, or grab a bite at a sidewalk café. The area's industrial past is still visible in the exposed brick and high ceilings of its lofts.
Don't miss
- Walking the cobblestone streets of Franklin and Greenwich Streets
- Browsing contemporary art at the Drawing Center or nearby galleries
- Catching a film or outdoor event during the Tribeca Film Festival in spring
