St. Paul's Chapel, built in 1766, is the oldest surviving public building in continuous use in Manhattan. Located just blocks from the World Trade Center, it miraculously survived the 9/11 attacks without damage. The chapel served as a refuge for recovery workers and now houses a memorial exhibit with artifacts from that time. Visitors can see the original pews, a George Washington memorial, and displays of tributes left at the site. Its serene interior offers a quiet contrast to the bustling Financial District.
