The Lahaina Banyan Tree is a massive Indian banyan tree planted in 1873 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first Protestant mission in Lahaina. Its sprawling canopy covers nearly an entire city block, supported by multiple aerial roots that have grown into secondary trunks. Visitors can walk beneath its shade, admire the intricate root system, and see benches where locals and tourists relax. It's a living landmark and a popular gathering spot.
Don't miss
- Walk under the vast canopy and observe the aerial roots forming new trunks
- Photograph the tree from the nearby courthouse steps for a full view
- Visit the small park at its base, often hosting local artisans and events
