Tongass Narrows is the busy waterway that separates Ketchikan from Gravina Island, serving as a highway for floatplanes, fishing boats, and cruise ships. The narrows are framed by steep, forested hillsides and dotted with islands, making every glance a postcard view. Visitors can watch seaplanes take off and land from the waterfront, or take a boat tour to see the strait up close. The waterway is also prime habitat for marine life, including seals, sea lions, and occasionally whales. At sunset, the light on the water and mountains is unforgettable.
