The Hilton Head Range Rear Light is a historic lighthouse located on the grounds of the Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort. Erected in 1880, it served as the rear light of a pair of range lights that helped mariners navigate the Port Royal Sound. The lighthouse is a square, pyramidal wooden structure with a lantern room, painted white. Though no longer active, it stands as a well-preserved example of 19th-century navigational aids. Visitors can view the exterior and learn about its history through interpretive signs, with the surrounding area offering scenic views of the sound.
