Ventana Double Cone is a distinctive twin-peaked summit in the Ventana Wilderness, accessible only by a challenging, unmaintained trail. The hike gains over 3,000 feet in elevation, passing through chaparral, oak woodlands, and finally rocky slopes with sparse pines. At the top, hikers are rewarded with sweeping views of the Big Sur coastline, the Santa Lucia Range, and on clear days, the distant Sierra Nevada. This is a full-day adventure for experienced hikers seeking solitude and a true wilderness experience.
Don't miss
- Stand on the saddle between the two peaks for a 360-degree view
- Spot California condors soaring overhead in the wilderness
- Traverse the exposed ridgeline with dramatic drop-offs on both sides
