Rio Grande Valley State Park is a 4,300-acre natural area that stretches along the Rio Grande through Albuquerque. The park features over 16 miles of multi-use trails that wind through cottonwood forests, wetlands, and open meadows. It's a popular spot for hiking, trail running, cycling, and horseback riding. Birdwatchers can spot herons, hawks, and migratory songbirds. The park also provides access to the river for fishing and canoeing. What makes this park distinctive is its urban-wilderness character, it offers a peaceful escape from the city while remaining easily accessible from downtown.
Don't miss
- Walk or bike the Paseo del Bosque Trail, a paved path that runs the length of the park.
- Look for great blue herons and red-tailed hawks along the river.
- Fish for catfish and bass in the Rio Grande (valid New Mexico fishing license required).
