The Scott Monument is a striking Gothic spire on Princes Street, dedicated to the novelist Sir Walter Scott. Built from local sandstone, its intricate carvings feature characters from Scott's novels. Visitors can climb the 287-step spiral staircase to four viewing platforms, each offering increasingly expansive views of Edinburgh, including the Old Town, New Town, and the Firth of Forth. The monument's dark, ornate architecture contrasts with the surrounding greenery of Princes Street Gardens, making it a distinctive landmark.
