Old Dee Bridge

The Old Dee Bridge is Chester's oldest surviving bridge, constructed from local red sandstone in the 14th century to replace earlier wooden structures. Its seven uneven arches carry a narrow road across the River Dee, connecting the city center with the southern suburbs. Pedestrians can walk across the bridge, pausing to admire the river, the weir, and the city walls. The bridge's worn stonework and medieval character evoke centuries of history, making it a favorite subject for painters and photographers.
