Earlshall Castle is a fortified tower house built in 1546 by Sir William Bruce, a courtier to Mary Queen of Scots. Its most famous feature is the Long Gallery's painted ceiling, a rare surviving example of Scottish Renaissance decorative art depicting biblical and allegorical scenes. The castle also boasts a walled garden laid out in the 19th century with herbaceous borders, roses, and a yew hedge. Visitors can tour the ground-floor rooms, climb the spiral staircase, and enjoy the peaceful grounds with views over the Fife countryside.
