Loch Faskally, created in the 1950s as part of a hydroelectric scheme, is a serene stretch of water surrounded by forested hills. It's a popular spot for trout and salmon fishing, with designated banks and boat access. Visitors can also rent rowboats or canoes to explore the loch's quiet coves. A well-maintained footpath circles much of the shoreline, offering easy walking with views of the water and glimpses of wildlife like herons and otters. The loch is also the centerpiece of the annual Pitlochry Salmon Festival, celebrating the fish ladder that helps salmon navigate the dam.

Don't miss

  • Fish for wild brown trout and Atlantic salmon from the bank or a rented boat
  • Walk the 3-mile circular trail around the loch for panoramic water views
  • Watch salmon leap up the fish ladder at the dam during autumn spawning runs
