The Bridge of Sighs, officially Hertford Bridge, is a skyway connecting the Old and New Quadrangles of Hertford College. Built in 1914, its name derives from its resemblance to the famous Venetian bridge. The bridge is enclosed with stone tracery and large windows, offering views of New College Lane below. Visitors can photograph the bridge from the lane or from the college's entrance. Though not open to the public for crossing, it remains one of Oxford's most photographed landmarks.

Don't miss

  • Photograph the bridge from New College Lane for the classic view.
  • Look for the Hertford College coat of arms above the arch.
  • Notice the similarity to the Venetian Bridge of Sighs in the enclosed design.
