Black Rocks is a prominent gritstone escarpment on the edge of the Peak District, renowned for its dramatic rock formations and far-reaching views. The site is a magnet for climbers, who tackle the many bouldering problems and climbing routes on the weathered rock faces. For walkers, a short but steep path leads to the top, rewarding them with sweeping vistas across the Derwent Valley and beyond. The distinctive dark color of the rocks, caused by a coating of lichen and algae, gives the site its name. It's a popular spot for photography, picnics, and simply soaking in the landscape.

Don't miss

  • Climbing and bouldering routes for all skill levels on the gritstone faces
