Derwentwater is one of the Lake District's most accessible and beautiful lakes, surrounded by wooded shores and towering fells like Catbells and Skiddaw. Visitors can hire rowing boats, kayaks, or stand-up paddleboards from marinas, or take a leisurely cruise to admire the scenery from the water. The 10-mile shoreline path is perfect for walkers, with flat sections suitable for families. Wildlife includes red squirrels and herons, and the lake's islands, such as St. Herbert's Island, add to its charm.
Don't miss
- Take a 50-minute cruise on the Keswick Launch to see the lake from the water.
- Walk the full 10-mile shoreline path or shorter sections like Friar's Crag.
- Hire a rowing boat or kayak from one of the four marinas.
