Castle Howe is the site of a Norman motte-and-bailey castle, one of the earliest fortifications in Kendal. Today, the earthworks remain, topped by an 18th-century obelisk monument. Visitors can climb the grassy mound for sweeping views of the town and surrounding fells. It's a peaceful spot for a short walk and a picnic, with interpretive panels explaining the history.
