Neptune's Staircase is an impressive series of eight interconnected locks on the Caledonian Canal, located near Fort William. Designed by Thomas Telford and completed in 1822, this engineering marvel raises boats 64 feet (19.5 meters) over a distance of about a quarter-mile. Visitors can watch the lock system in operation, walk along the towpath, and enjoy views of the surrounding Highlands. The site offers a unique glimpse into Scotland's industrial heritage and the ingenuity required to connect the east and west coasts.
