Canterbury's city walls form a nearly complete circuit of medieval fortifications, originally built by the Romans and rebuilt in the 14th century. Today, a pleasant walking path follows the walls, passing through gardens and offering elevated views of the cathedral, rooftops, and surrounding countryside. The walk is especially lovely in spring when the moat-side gardens bloom. Key surviving gates include Westgate and the lesser-known Burgate.
