Scrabo Tower, a prominent landmark perched on a hill above Newtownards, was built in 1857 as a memorial to the 3rd Marquess of Londonderry. The 135-foot sandstone tower offers a steep but rewarding climb. At the top, you're greeted with a 360-degree panorama that stretches from the lough's islands to the Mourne Mountains. The tower also houses a small exhibition on its history and the local area. On clear days, the view is simply breathtaking.

Don't miss

  • Panoramic views from the top over Strangford Lough and the Mourne Mountains
  • Exhibition on the tower's construction and the Londonderry family
  • Scenic walk through Scrabo Country Park with its wildflowers and wildlife
