The Smuggler-Union Hydroelectric Power Plant, built in 1907, is a testament to early 20th-century engineering. It harnessed water from Bridal Veil Creek to generate electricity for the Smuggler-Union Mine, one of the area's richest. The plant's stone and concrete structure still stands at the base of Bridal Veil Falls, accessible via a 1.8-mile hike or 4x4 road from Telluride. Visitors can view the exterior and imagine the roar of turbines powered by the falls. It's a popular photo stop and a reminder of Telluride's mining heritage.
