Lachryma Montis, 'Tear of the Mountain', was the home of General Mariano Vallejo, the most powerful Mexican official in Northern California before the U.S. takeover. Completed in 1852, the two-story Gothic Revival mansion is filled with original furnishings, including a grand piano and family portraits. The estate includes a lush garden with fruit trees, a carriage house with historic vehicles, and a Swiss-style chalet. Visitors can tour the mansion, stroll the grounds, and learn about Vallejo's complex role in California's transition from Mexican to American rule.
