The Sonoma Barracks is a sturdy adobe structure built in the 1830s to house Mexican soldiers stationed at the northern frontier of Alta California. After the Bear Flag Revolt, U.S. forces occupied the building, and it later served as a winery and private home. Today it is a state historic park. Visitors can explore restored rooms with period furnishings, exhibits on military life, and a small museum shop. The building's thick walls and shaded arcade evoke its long, layered past.
