A bit of history

Miami Beach's Art Deco district was developed during the 1920s and 1930s, with a building boom that created hundreds of hotels and apartment buildings in the then-popular Art Deco style. In the 1970s, the area fell into decline, but preservationists led by Barbara Baer Capitman fought to protect the buildings, resulting in the district being listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
