Century Lake sits within the expansive Malibu Creek State Park, a former movie ranch turned protected wilderness. The lake was created by damming Malibu Creek and offers a calm setting for fishing (catch-and-release for bass and bluegill), picnicking on grassy shores, and hiking along the surrounding trails. Visitors can walk or bike the easy 2-mile loop around the lake, taking in views of the Santa Monica Mountains and spotting wildlife like herons and turtles. The area is also a popular spot for rock climbing on nearby volcanic cliffs.
