Sugar Loaf is a towering 75-foot limestone stack, one of the most unusual geological formations on Mackinac Island. Unlike the island's other rock formations, it stands alone in a forest clearing, resembling a giant loaf of sugar. The stack is the remnant of ancient coral reefs and glacial activity. Visitors can hike or bike to the site via a well-marked trail, enjoying the peaceful woodland setting. The formation is especially striking in late afternoon when shadows accentuate its rugged texture.
