Children's Pool Beach is a small, sheltered cove originally intended as a safe swimming area for children, but today it's famous for its resident colony of harbor seals. The seals rest on the sand and swim in the calm waters, especially during pupping season from December to May. Visitors watch from a low seawall and a sandy area behind a rope barrier, observing the seals' natural behaviors. The beach is a subject of ongoing debate between seal protection and public access, but for now, it remains a premier wildlife-watching spot in La Jolla.

Don't miss

  • Watch harbor seals lounging on the sand and swimming in the cove
  • Visit during pupping season (Dec–May) to see newborn seal pups
  • Photograph seals from the seawall without disturbing them
