The Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary encompasses waters around Maui where thousands of humpback whales migrate annually from Alaska to breed and give birth. The sanctuary's visitor center in Kaanapali provides interactive exhibits, whale skeletons, and educational programs about whale behavior and conservation. Visitors can learn about the whales' life cycle, the threats they face, and ongoing research. From December to April, the sanctuary's waters offer exceptional whale watching opportunities, with whales often visible from shore.
