Rainbow Falls is a classic Hilo attraction, plunging 80 feet into a wide pool on the Wailuku River. The falls are best viewed in the early morning when the sun creates vibrant rainbows in the mist, a sight that gives the waterfall its name. Visitors can walk a short paved path to a viewing platform directly across from the falls, or climb to an upper lookout for a different perspective. The surrounding park features banyan trees and picnic areas, making it a quick, rewarding stop.
Don't miss
- Watch for rainbows in the mist during morning hours (best around 9–10 a.m.)
- View the falls from the main platform and the upper lookout for different angles
- Explore the surrounding park with its giant banyan trees and picnic spots
