Situated on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, the Chesapeake Heritage & Visitor Center serves as both a tourist information hub and a museum dedicated to the region's rich maritime and cultural heritage. The center features engaging exhibits on the Bay's ecology, the history of the skipjack oyster dredging fleet, and the area's role in the War of 1812. Visitors can explore a replica of a lighthouse lens, view artifacts from shipwrecks, and watch a short film about the Bay's ecosystem. Outside, a boardwalk leads to a pier with panoramic views of the Chesapeake Bay, where you might spot ospreys, blue herons, and working crab boats. The center also offers maps, brochures, and advice for exploring the wider Kent Island and Eastern Shore region.
