Kituwa, also spelled Kituhwa, is the ancient mother town of the Cherokee Nation, located near the confluence of the Tuckasegee and Little Tennessee Rivers. The site includes a large platform mound, once the center of ceremonial and political life, now preserved as a sacred space. A walking trail with interpretive signs explains the history and significance of the area. Visitors can reflect on the enduring Cherokee culture while viewing the river and surrounding mountains.
