Fort Ellis, established in 1867 as a U.S. Army post, played a key role in protecting settlers and supporting expeditions during the Indian Wars. Today, the site is a historic area with interpretive trails that guide visitors through the remnants of the fort, including foundations and markers. Located just east of Bozeman, the fort's grounds provide a peaceful setting for reflection and learning. Visitors can walk the trails, read informational panels, and imagine life on the frontier. The site is managed by the U.S. Forest Service and offers a quiet outdoor experience steeped in history.
