The Grosvenor Museum, founded in 1886, is the premier museum for Chester's history. Its extensive collections include Roman tombstones, pottery, and jewelry from the city's time as the fortress of Deva Victrix. The natural history gallery features local wildlife and fossils, while period rooms recreate Victorian and Edwardian interiors. Visitors can also see the museum's famous collection of Chester silver. The building itself, a Victorian Gothic structure, is a notable landmark.
