Hyde Abbey was a wealthy Benedictine monastery founded in the 12th century, but little remains today except for a few stone fragments and earthworks. The site is now a public park, offering a quiet spot to reflect on its rich history. King Alfred the Great was originally buried here before his remains were moved during the Reformation. Visitors can see the outline of the abbey church and a modern memorial to Alfred. The park is a pleasant place for a stroll, with information boards explaining the abbey's past.
Don't miss
