Whitby Swing Bridge is a vital road crossing over the River Esk, connecting the east and west sides of the town. Its distinctive mechanism allows the bridge to rotate horizontally, opening a channel for boats to navigate the river. Visitors can watch the bridge swing open from the adjacent quayside, a process that draws crowds and provides a glimpse into Whitby's maritime heritage. The bridge also offers excellent photo opportunities of the harbor and the historic townscape.
