Tenby's town walls are among the best-preserved medieval fortifications in Wales, built in the 13th century to defend against attacks. The walls stretch for about a mile, punctuated by five original gates and several towers. Visitors can walk along the top of sections of the wall, enjoying views over the harbor and rooftops. Key features include the Five Arches barbican and the West Gate, which still retains its portcullis groove. The walls are especially atmospheric at dusk.

Don't miss

  • Walk the section near the Five Arches for a sense of medieval defense.
  • Photograph the West Gate, the most intact of the original gates.
  • Look for the stone cannon loops and arrow slits along the wall walk.
